The Cycle of Tragedy

It rocks and steadies, rocks and steadies
Earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, catastrophes
Murders, rapes, arson and robberies
Blasts, butchery, terrorism, even slavery

They destroy lives, shake up routines
We stand by in shock and in agony
We pour our angst, we rant and rave
All nothing but empty tirade

Next day dawns, bright and beautiful
Or probably, gloomy, predicting doom
We battle, we struggle, get on with our lives
All that rocked is steady in our tiny little minds.

Till one of them rocks our world again
Rouses our sympathies, empty and vain
For our routines beckon and tragedy is far
Facing our battles that challenge us to spar

It rocks and steadies, rocks and steadies
That's the way with these tragedies
Resilience, platitudes and philosophy
They keep our little world steady.
