Switch Off the Churner

Like the compass needle

always points north

So do our thoughts

take always the same path

Even when hands

are busy doing a task

The wayward mind is

constantly turning back

On past events

some sad, some joyous 

On future developments

feeling eager or anxious

Digging and turning

broiling and churning

Constantly raking

always swirling

Don't you think

it's all a little tiring?

With nothing to show

for all that is happening

A life of whining

some wining and dining

But it all passes in a jiffy

Leaving us feeling a little iffy

Is this what 

life is all about?

What is my purpose

if everything comes to naught?

All the energy expended

but on nothing splendid

Just feeling upended

and mostly, offended

Take it lightly

watch it like a play

This is all just a show

to be forgotten so let go

Don't let the thoughts churn

don't cling to hurts and burns

It is not always others

sometimes the fault is yours

What goes comes back

remember this when you talk

Don't let others rule your mind

don't constantly rewind.

Imperfect, we can but strive

acknowledge that others too try

In our difference lies our beauty

to respect that is our duty.
