That rustles up the leaves
Like the gentle rain
That runs down from eaves
Soft memories ripple through
A word here, an image there
Present, no more
But the presence, still there
Captured, time capsules that float
Closely, yet just beyond my grasp
Shadows, teasing and playing with me
The lucidity, in wonder making me gasp
Nothing stays forever, I know
Soon, nor will I be there
And yet does the river leave
Its mark on rocks bare
Waves arise and fall and go
The ocean may not care for its flow
But the feet that were touched by the foam
Do they forget the soft glow?
Pain, it may not leave in its wake
Another may even soon take its place
Just a chain it is all, no doubt
As life runs on, on its own uneven pace
Carrying us from pillar to post
With many into our lives come and go
Some you carry always in your hearts
As moments, songs, and photos shot
To meet again, maybe some day
Not seeing them in the new form and name
Just say hello, or walk together some way
And go through the motions just the same
Till I wave a bye to the rut
Small ripples will become whirlpools infinite
Memories and stories will bind me in
My lives woven by them, that is definite.
Nice one there
